I work in a lot of layers with acrylics, and the underpainting is one of the most important layers as it sets the tone for the whole piece. I’ll spread one color real thin with a palette knife. This piece is all about the beach and warmth, even with the cool blues in the background. To set that tone I came in with a light orange. My guidelines are still coming through as I came in really thin with the paint.
