Process Week: Day Two

I’m working with acrylics for this painting, so I’m working from back to front, from dark to light. Acrylics are opaque, so that’s the best way to work with them. I came at the background with a palette knife and a brush. I tend to always start my paintings with a knife to get the texture it creates. Ever since I used one at the age of 16 I’ve been hooked. I’ll normally blot the paint colors right on the surface and then mix them with the knife, creating swirls and swatches of color that don’t happen intentionally.
