Where Old School Rap and Billy Ray Cyrus Meet

Ink and ink wash on 12″x16″ watercolor paper

I texted each of my four siblings what they wanted me to paint for their holiday present. My brother AJ said he wanted “something to do with music.” So of course, I told him that his Billy Ray Cyrus painting was coming right up! He said, no, he wanted something with old school rap. Now, mind you, AJ is about half my age so I had to get his definition of ‘old school rap’. Does that mean Dr Dre or does that mean the Sugarhill Gang? His definition means Dr Dre. Of course, he also told me when I asked what he thought of the Wu-Tang Clan that he’s not really into ‘that old stuff,’ so there you go.

As any older brother is wont to do, I spent most of the day on the Friday before X-Mas doing a Billy Ray Cyrus painting that I mounted on the back of his real present, and framed that. He opened it, and the look on his face was priceless! I took him down to his room to show me where he wanted it to hang. To his credit, he went right along with it! I said that it looked like something had shifted in the frame and that I’d fix it, and them pulled out the ‘real’ painting. He was visibly relieved!

For your enjoyment, here is the bonus Billy Ray Cyrus painting he got:
