Process: Fire in the Eyes, Smoke From the Mouth – Day One

I thought it would be fun to document the process on this painting, as I really had no idea what I was going to do with it. I had used up all of my wood so this next series will be on canvas, this particular one on a 3′ x 6′ surface. That in itself would make this different, as I haven’t worked on canvas in a minute.

I put my drawing on the canvas and then put it where I was looking at it for a day or two, deciding what I was going to do with it. I’d grown tired of being so representational in my last couple of series, so I knew I wanted to stretch out. I also knew I wanted to work with stencils some more, and to mix them in with the painting process more than I had up to this point.

But mostly, I just stared at this drawing, waiting for the seed crystal to drop into the sugar solution that was swimming around in my brain.
