Process: Fire in the Eyes, Smoke From the Mouth – Day Four

A little more painting was done, on the arm and the hat. Then I stenciled in the white on the face. That’s right, the white was done with spray paint. Why? Why not just paint that with acrylics like the rest of the painting?

To answer that, I’ll give you a bit of insight into me as a person and how my brain works. Let’s go back to when I was at Pleasant Lee Junior High, in gym class. We had our football unit, and man, I hate football. I hate watching it, I hate talking about it, and I really, really hate playing it. So, the coach told us we had to run four laps around the track and then we would go play. We couldn’t play until we ran the four laps, and he presented this as a way to get us to do the laps without complaining. So while everyone else is running, I’m walking at a leisurely pace. I finished my first lap well after everyone else had run theirs. The coach yells at me, “Schamberger! Why aren’t you running?!”

“Because I don’t feel like it,” I say with a confident grin.

“Then you don’t get to play football!”

“Cool.”

Why didn’t I just paint the white with acrylics? I didn’t feel like it.
